Mutakayyefduredycvextfbaezzrzbacabwe is still on course to run in the Dubai Turf at the end of March despite missing the Winter Derby at Lingfield on Saturday.

William Haggas was forced to pull his stable star out of the all-weather highlight on the morning of the race, after finding him with an abscess on his foot.

Mutakayyef finished third to Postponed in the Juddmonte International last year and is expected to play a leading role in the QIPCO British Champions Series this year. He will now have a racecourse gallop before embarking on his trip to Meydan.

“His foot is fine, it was just very unfortunate timing,” said Haggas.

“He’ll be back ridden tomorrow and there’s no question of it ruling him out of Dubai.

“It’s a shame we can’t get a run into him first, but he was fairly fit for Saturday.

“I’m just viewing it as God’s way! He obviously didn’t want me to get a run into him first.

“We’ll take him away for a gallop somewhere first, that will put him right.”

Meanwhile, Silvestre de Sousa made a winning return to British action at Lingfield on Tuesday.

The 2015 Stobart Champion Flat Jockey, back after a successful stint in Hong Kong, won on Traveller in the 32Red Casino Maiden Stakes.

De Sousa said: “I had a great time in Hong Kong and plenty of support. I have to go back there soon for a day.”
