Stars of the track and the saddle combine to show what it takes to become a Champion
Adam Gemili and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, two of Great Britain’s brightest medal hopes at this summer’s World Athletics Championships, have today featured in a video on what makes a Champion, ahead of the launch of the 2017 QIPCO British Champions Series which kicks off this weekend at the QIPCO Guineas Festival
The pair, who are ambassadors for the prestigious 35-race Series, for which there is nearly £20 million in prize money on offer, star in the video which showcases the mental and physical qualities required by both human and equine athletes in their quest to be crowned champion.
Shot on location at Newmarket, the home of horseracing, and at Cambridge University’s athletics track, and also featuring one of the most talented young jockeys, Oisin Murphy, the video explores the hours of training, the never-say-die attitude and the dedication, resilience and talent needed to win at the highest level and become a Champion.
The first race of this year’s Series takes place at Newmarket on Saturday 6 May over the distance of 1 mile where the new generation of three-year-olds go head to head in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas for the first Classic of the season. Spanning five different categories and taking in 10 different racecourses over the course of the summer, they will aim to be at QIPCO British Champions Day on 21 October for the finale with £4.2 million on offer and a chance to be called Champion.
