The leading lights of this year’s QIPCO British Champions Series were on Sunday revealed as nominees for the annual Cartier Racing Awards.
Cracksman, Enable, Ribchester and Ulysses, who between them won eight of the 35 races in this year’s Series, are the four nominees in contention to be named Cartier Horse Of The Year.
The quartet helped provide many of the highlights of the season. The John Gosden-trained Cracksman was the runaway QIPCO Champion Stakes winner under Frankie Dettori, while his stablemate Enable won five successive Group 1 contests – including the Investec Oaks, QIPCO-sponsored King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Darley Yorkshire Oaks.
Ribchester won the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes and Queen Anne Stakes, with Ulysses scooping the Coral-Eclipse and Juddmonte International.
Minding, Golden Horn, Kingman, Treve and Frankel have been the past five winners of the main equine award.
The Cartier Horse Of The Year will be revealed late on Tuesday evening at the 27th annual Cartier Racing Awards, following on from the announcement of the winners of seven other equine categories.
The Cartier Racing Awards were established in 1991 to reward excellence in racing.
