Well, I started yesterday with some really good news that my application to ride for the Hong Kong Jockey Club had been accepted. A few jobs in Dubai came up but I was looking for a fresh opportunity and wanted to widen my experience by riding somewhere new. It’s a privilege to go there as it’s one of the hardest places to ride in the world.

I fly from Heathrow on Tuesday morning and will be back in the UK when my license expires at the end of January. From then it will be a case of mixing the Dubai Carnival with the all-weather in Britain. It should certainly make for a fun winter!

Before then I’m looking forward to riding at Doncaster on Saturday and taking the ride on Montaly in the November Handicap. He disappointed in France last time but goes into this race a relatively fresh horse after missing the Cesarewitch due to the ground.

Absolutely So enjoys cut in the ground and I would like to think he will take a bit of beating in the listed Wentworth Stakes. I’m also on Diamonds Pour Moi in the fillies’ listed race and although she’s had a few setbacks, I know that Ralph (Beckett) has had this race in mind for a while. I rode her a month or so ago and she was ready then and hopefully his patience will be rewarded.

On the other side of the pond it looks like being a great weekend’s racing at the Breeders’ Cup and fingers crossed the UK and Ireland can come away with a few winners!

The Distaff looks like being the race of the night on Friday and it will be great if Songbird can continue her unbeaten run. She has a gun draw in stall 1 and I think that she will get to the front and kill them!

On Saturday I wouldn’t be surprised if Washington DC bettered his Abbaye performance in the Turf Sprint. Aidan (O’Brien) has been pretty bullish about how tough this horse is and he could kick-start a decent night for the Ballydoyle team.

I’m surprised that they opted for the Turf over the Classic with Found, as she has nothing to prove on turf now, but she should have the measure of Flintshire and this doesn’t look as strong a race as the one she won last year.

Alice Springs is another tough filly who also has a really good chance in the Mile. She’s received 6 Ibs from Limato and should be favourite in my eyes. At a price Dutch Connection could run well and it would be great to see James Doyle have a winner.

In the big race of the meeting, the Classic, the people’s horse California Chrome should keep his winning sequence going in what will be a smaller field than normal.

As for this evening I’m going to see Justin Bieber in Dublin! My sister very kindly bought me this as a present for my 21st birthday and I haven’t been to a concert since I was in Australia two years ago.

She will definitely be campaigned on the all-weather. She’s done nothing wrong and seems to be strengthening up all the time. Hopefully she could just well still be ahead of the handicapper.
