Hoping to Count another Royal Ascot win!
22 Jun 2017
Well, I certainly had a spring in my step yesterday as I returned at Royal Ascot. It was a long seven days, believe me! The last thing you want to do is get suspended, but it’s absolutely heartache when it involves missing such a big day and the likes of Lightning Spear.
I’m lucky to have plenty of chances on Friday and I think that Natural will go really well in the opening Albany Stakes. I tipped her up in my Epsom blog as a Horse to Follow and think that plenty of people made a few pennies given how well supported she was at Doncaster! The American fillies (Fairyland and Princess Peggy) and Clemmie have to rate as dangers but I will be disappointed if Natural isn’t involved.
In the King Edward VII Stakes Crystal Ocean has been progressive but the team have been absolutely raving about Sir John Lavery at home and the people connected with him think that he has a massive shout.
The Commonwealth Cup
The ground was pretty fast at Newmarket when Winter won the QIPCO 1000 Guineas and it looked like she improved to double up in the Irish version last time. She seems to have scared off some of the opposition for the Coronation Stakes and I don’t think everything would even have to go all her own way to take this readily.
The betting for the Queen’s Vase has a slightly strange look to it and I definitely think that Count Octave will outrun his odds. He’s a lightly raced son of Frankel, should be suited by the step up in trip and we believe there is improvement in him. It’s not the best Group 2 and he should definitely be in the first four. I also think that Face The Facts will run well at a bigger price for Adam Kirby.
In the closing Duke of Edinburgh handicap, Appeared has indeed appeared to be very progressive and could prove hard to beat for the Roger Varian stable. My fella, Lustrous Light, should have a great chance, though. The ground was a bit soft last time and he has a plum draw in stall one and could turn out to be well handicapped.
