Trained by Ed Dunlop during her two and three-year-old campaigns, in which her most notable victory came in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes at two, Amazing Maria lost her way in 2014 and was transferred to the yard of David O’Meara.
She ran well on her first two starts, finishing third on both occasions, before heading to Royal Ascot for the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes. Sent off at 25-1, she quickened up smartly in the hands of James Doyle and stretched clear to win by two lengths.
With some suggesting her Ascot win was a fluke, she was once again relatively unfancied for her next outing – the Group 1 Qipco Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket.
However, the result was the same as she powered clear of her rivals on the run to the line to win with a length to spare in the QIPCO British Champions Series contest.
Amazing Maria confirmed she was thriving when landing another Group 1 prize, the Prix Rothschild at Deauville, the following month.
Her 2015 campaign ended with a flat display at the Breeders’ Cup but that might easily have been one race too many.
She began 2016 with a creditable third to Usherette in the Group Two Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket, before finishing sixth to Tepin in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. Amazing Maria then defended her Falmouth crown but never figured and disappointed back at Newmarket on her latest start.
