Summary

Unraced at two, Cougar Mountain won easily over 6 furlongs on his debut at Naas in 2014 and was fast-tracked into QIPCO British Champions Series company in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket.

He finished fifth behind Slade Power, a tremendous effort given his inexperience, but was subsequently unable to make an impact in either the Nunthorpe or Sprint Cup.

With the pedigree of a miler, Cougar Mountain was stepped up in distance in 2015.

His best effort was when third, beaten little more than a length, to Solow in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, after being held up towards the rear.

He contested the Coral-Eclipse (fourth), Qatar Sussex Stakes (fifth) on his next two starts before landing a Group 3 prize at Leopardstown. On his final run of the year, he trailed home last of seven in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York.
