Owned by Her Majesty The Queen, there were high hopes that Dartmouth would land the King George And Queen Elizabth Stakeseezybysyxwbcbxcstzyvczezcdvf at Ascot in July 2016.

The progressive Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt ran well but going a bit too late, finishing a staying-on third (beaten four lengths) behind Highland Reel.

Dartmouth had previously beaten the winner by a head in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot – giving Her Majesty her first success at the meeting for three years in the process.

Dartmouth began his 2017 campaign with a thrilling neck triumph Yorkshire Cup triumph. He returned to York in August for the Lonsdale Cup and was again in the thick of things at the business end of the race – only to lose out by a nose to Montaly.

However, after that he ran poorly in the Irish St Leger and Long Distance Cup, and in the autumn he was retired.

Officially rated 89 on August 1, 2015, he is now rated considerably higher.
