Summary

The globetrotting six-year-old has run some wonderful races all over the world, scooping more than £6 million in prize money.

He has three wins at the highest level on his CV, including the Breeders’ Cup Turf and Hong Kong Vase, but perhaps his best two efforts have been in defeat, when runner-up in the past two renewals of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. He chased home Treve in 2014 and then beat all bar Golden Horn in the 2015.

Flintshire did not set foot onto a racecourse until the May of his three-year-old season, when he easily won a minor event at Chantilly.

A disappointing defeat on a soft surface at Longchamp the following month was followed by two outstanding performances as he ran out the effortless winner of both the Group 3 Prix du Lys and the Group 1 Grand Prix de Chantilly.

Then given the traditional French mid-summer break, he again encountered soft ground on both his two autumn appearances, when fourth in the Group 2 Qatar Prix Niel and eighth in the Group 1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Another long break preceded his QIPCO British Champions Series debut, in the Group 1 Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom in June  2014. But he proved that he had lost none of his ability in getting to within two lengths of the winner, Cirrus Des Aigles. Next he contested the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud but would not have liked the give in the ground and could only finish fifth.

He missed the QIPCO King George with a temperature and then contested the Group 2 Prix Foy at Longchamp, but could never get on terms with the winner, Ruler Of The World. However, he turned that form around when running second to Treve in Arc, with Ruler Of The World back in ninth.

In 2015, Flintshire landed a grade one contest at Saratoga before again finishing runner-up in the Arc. He signed off for the year with another second, this time in the Longines Hong Kong Vase.
Flintshire continued to flourish in America before being retired to stud at the end of 2016.
