Long held as one of the most talented horses in Charlie Appleby’s yard, the mercurial front-runner Ghaiyyath is a horse with real headline-making talent.
Usually seen sporting headgear in the prelims and on the way down to post, the son of Dubawi clearly takes a fair bit of handling to be seen to best effect.
But when putting it all together he’s shown himself to be a seriously high-class middle distance horse; winning Group races in Britain, France, Germany and Dubai during his juvenile, three and four-year-old campaigns. His maiden Group 1 win coming in Germany by a scarcely believable 14 lengths!
Domestic Group 1 honours would eventually come his way at the age of five in the rescheduled Coronation Cup at Newmarket; beating 2019 Investec Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck and dual Gold Cup winner Stradivarius in the process.
Like buses, one comes along and another follows shortly after. Just four weeks later Ghaiyyath followed up in a competitive Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park, taking down the mighty Enable in the process
After a short mid-season break, the free-wheeling five-year-old returned to win the Juddmonte International at York – taking down another hardy mare in Magical in the process and securing his third Series win of the season.
