Harlequeen kept on to finish nine and three-quarter lengths third to Minding in the Investec Oaks, having previously finished fourth to So Mi Dar in the Musidora at York.

Mick Channon, her trainer, said: “It was her fourth run and I do feel she will get better with time. If we can keep her together she has a bright future. We are very pleased. The first three came a long way clear particularly the first two but it was only her fourth run.

“She is still in the process of maturing and I do think she will get better with time. She has a good attitude, nothing seems to bother her and we are absolutely delighted.

“I have not looked beyond today with her. Obviously, coming in here, we ruled the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot out but we will have to see.

“She is in the Irish Oaks and I don’t see why we shouldn’t look at running her in that. It would be the obvious race to look at but we need to get her home and have a look at her. If she is fit and well I would run her.”

Channon was good to his word and Harlequeen again gave a good account of herself – filling third place once more.
