Bred by Darley, Lucida was clearly thought of very highly as her Latin name translates to mean ‘brightest star’.

A leading two-year-old, in 2014, she endured a luckless/winless time the in three starts following year and is due the rub of the green in 2016.

Lucida’s tale of misfortune in 2015 began in the 2015 QIPCO 1000 Guineas, where she was edged out by Legatissimo. She looked unlucky as Kevin Manning was almost unshipped at the start and she had to go the long way to mount her challenge down the centre of the track.

Her next foray in the QIPCO British Champions Series was at Royal Ascot, where she was a never-nearer third to French raider Ervedya and Aidan O’Brien’s Found in the Coronation Stakes after being held up at the back of the field for much of the race.

She looked a worthy 2-1 favourite for the QIPCO Falmouth Stakes but again met trouble in running and was beaten a total of one and a half lengths.

As a two-year-old, Lucida was runner-up in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes behind Cursory Glance (she didn’t enjoy the clearest of passages on that occasion, either) before taking the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.
