Charlie Hills mopped up most of the big sprints in 2015 with Muhaarar and Magical Memory picked up the baton for him in 2016.

The grey won the Group Three Abernant Stakes on his return and then landed the Group Two Duke of York Stakes. He started 3-1 favourite for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on the back of those efforts and gave another fine account, finishing half a length fourth to Twilight Son.

However, he was unable to reproduce that in the Darley July Cup or 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock on his next two starts.

His 2017 season began well, though, with a fine second when defending his Duke of York Stakes crown. He also won a conditions event at Haydock after a below-par effort in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. On his latest start he was fourth to Brando in the LARC Prix Maurice de Gheest.

Magical Memory had been progressive in competitive handicaps before contesting the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock in the autumn of 2015 and running a cracker to be a close third.

He emerged from the pack to chase Twilight Son home for the third time in his career, just getting pipped for second by stablemate Strath Burn.

By speedy sprint sire Zebedee, the striking grey gelding has always cut an eye-catching figure, but his talent clearly more than matches his looks.
