Franny Norton has no family background in racing and had never sat on a horse until, at the age of 16 and because of his size, he left home in Liverpool to try his luck at the small Didcot stable of Peter Arthur.
Even once he started riding winners he nearly made a career change, as he was an excellent amateur boxer and once knocked out the fighter who was then ranked number four in Britain at his weight.
But at the same time as he was made an offer to box professional he was simultaneously asked to ride for leading trainer, Mick Channonsaduysczdybtaxafxtvyvutuusfuusczyeu, and, knowing he could not do both, he plumped for racing.
He has never ridden the winner of a Group 1 race but enjoyed his biggest financial windfall when guiding The Gold Cheongsam to victory in a sales race at Doncaster in September 2012 which had a first prize of £206,900. In 2011 he broke through the 1,000 British career victories barrier.
He is married to Rachel with three children and is a massive fan of Liverpool Football Club.
