Unusually for a French trainer, Henri-Alex Pantall is not based at Chantilly but trains his team of around 130 horses at Beaupreau in the north-west of France, close to Nantes.
Since he began training in 1981, he has enjoyed a good level of success and celebrated the biggest success of his career when the Sheikh Mohammed-owned West Wind captured the 2007 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) at Chantilly.
Other good horses to have passed through his hands include Russian Hope, Maiden Tower and Touch Of Land.
He trained Restiadargent to finish a close third in the 2011 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, just behind Black Caviar and Moonlight Cloud, and also saddled a placed horse at Royal Ascot 2013 when Kenhope ran second in the Coronation Stakes, albeit well beaten by the winner, Sky Lantern.
In 2018 he saddled Wootton to finish third in the St James’s Palace Stakes.
