Summary

One of Scotland’s leading trainers, Jim Goldie started riding in point-to-points before setting up as a dairy farmer and a fencing contractor.

He started training under his father’s permit before taking out a full licence to train in 1994 and sent out his first winner that September as Red Tempest captured a novices’ claiming hurdle at Perth.

A shrewd judge of a horse, Goldie has enjoyed major wins over jumps with the likes of dual Aintree winner Endless Power, as well as several notable Flat successes headed by Hawkeyethenoo, who captured the Stewards’ Cup in 2012 and was runner-up in the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot that October.

He saddled the runner-up in the same race in 2013, this time Jack Dexter running second to Slade Power, with Hawkeyethenoo back in eighth.
