Michael Dods has been training at Denton Hall, a 400-acre arable and beef farm near Piercebridge, Co Durham, since 1990 after inheriting a handful of sprinters from his late father, Dickie.
In recent years, Dods has proven himself to be a master handler of sprinters and, having landed some of the biggest handicaps in Britain, has now started to show his class at the very highest level.
The likes of Hamish McGonagall and Barney McGrew had managed to land blows in pattern company for Dods but it wasn’t until Mecca’s Angel came along that he started to hit the headlines.
The flying filly racked up a pair of Group 3 victories before proving herself one of the finest sprinters around when winning back-to-back renewals of the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York’s Ebor Meeting.
