Jane Chapple-Hyam filly relishes conditions at Newmarket in emphatic victory

Saffron Beach

Saffron Beach delivered an emphatic front running performance to land the Group 1 Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.

Jane Chapple-Hyam was bullish about her fillies’ chances ahead of the race, and the confidence proved spot on. Saffron Beach was always comfortable bowling along in front as two groups formed early on.

At halfway the tough conditions began to take their toll. Falmouth Stakes winner and second favourite Snow Lantern was one of the first under heavy pressure and was relegated near the back.

No such problems for William Buick and Saffron Beach who upped the tempo further. She powered clear by two lengths and with very little going with her in behind, the writing was on the wall.

It was left to favourite Mother Earth to try and close the ever-growing gap. It was all in vain however, as Saffron Beach galloped all the way up the slope on the Rowley Mile and seal the victory.
