Dreaming big in Bahrain

19 Nov 2020

I’m out in Bahrain for an exciting day’s racing tomorrow in the Sakhir Bahrain International Trophy meeting. It’s a really new initiative and one I’m really excited to be apart of.

As you might have seen they’ve attracted some of the best riders on the planet, including familiar names to UK fans such as Frankie Dettori, Tom Marquand and Hollie Doyle.

The sun is shining here which makes a nice change from back home, and the hospitality shown to us has been first class.

I’m really looking forward to getting on board Dream Castle in the big race, which looks a really competitive event. There are multiple Group 1 winners lining up and the likes of Sovereign and Global Giant sit at the top of the market.

My boy ran a great race to finish second in his most recent run in the Group 3 Darley Stakes Newmarket. That was on soft ground and tomorrow’s quicker conditions should suit him better. It’s a really tough race and there are plenty of familiar names in the line-up with Lord Glitters, Desert Encounter and Bangkok also making the trip over.

It also looks likely to be Deirdre’s final race. I won on her in the Qatar Nassau Stakes back in 2019 so she holds a special place in my heart. She doesn’t owe anybody anything, and has been a tremendous servant to her connections and to Japanese Racing as a whole. It would be great to see her run a big race too.

I have two other rides on the card who I don’t know huge amounts about if I’m really honest with you. One them, Cloud Drift, I have sat on before though. He’s got a nice weight in what looks like quite a competitive race.
