Berkshire Rocco’s solitary win in 2020 was when all out to win a four-runner Listed contest at Ascot in early October.

That masks the fact that he ran some fine races in defeat, especially when beaten a neck by Galileo Chrome in an exciting Pertemps St Leger at Doncaster the previous month.

It looked like he might prevail when he hit the front two out but the winner was just a bit stronger than him in the closing stages.

Nevertheless, it was an excellent effort and offered evidence that the son of Sir Percy is always going to be suited by a stiff test of stamina.

Earlier in the campaign, he had finished runner-up in the Lingfield Derby Trial and Queen’s Vase (behind subsequent Irish Derby winner Santiago) plus had been a creditable fourth in the Sky bet Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.

A consistent sort versatile regards the ground, he will be worth keeping an eye on in the Long Distance Category of the Champions Series in 2021.
