The Coolmore engine produces multiple stars each year and it’s never easy to pick which ones will make it to the very top.
Snowfall however, is one who left all of the talking to one side and did it all on the track. Her latest win in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks only further enhanced her reputation. Easing her way to victory to add another Group 1 to her already impressive CV.
Heavily raced as a two-year-old to little success, her big stage came in her three year old career. Her 2021 started very well with a win in York’s Musidora Stakes – a widely regarded trail for the Oaks at Epsom.
That is exactly where she went next.
What followed was nothing short of mesmerising. After taking up a place mid field for the large part of the first half of the race, Frankie Dettori – who has become a master at picking up Ballydoyle spares – pushed go as they straightened up after rounding Tattenham Corner. The response was instant and Dettori was merely a passenger as Snowfall continued to pull further and further clear.
The result – a 16 length victory in a British Classic and another Classic for Frankie Dettori, aged 50.
