Northern-based Tom Eaves has ridden more than 1100 winners and enjoyed Group 1 success on foreign shores aboard three sprinters: Tangerine Trees, Brando and Glass Slippers.
The Wigan-born rider struck in the 2011 Prix de l’Abbaye aboard Tangerine Trees and then, six years later, landed the Prix Mauricee de Gheest at Deauville on Brando for Kevin Ryan.
In 2019, he won the Abbaye again via Glass Slippers and then trumped all that by guiding the same filly, also trained by Ryan, to Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint glory in 2020. No British-trained horse had previously won the race.
However, Eaves has still to win a British Champions Series win.
The 38-year-old has knocked on the door several times on Brando, especially in the 2020 Sprint on Champions Day in 2020 when the combination lost out by a nose.
Eaves rode his first winner in 1999 and enjoyed his best campaign in 2011 when riding 93 victories.
