As part of the famous Hills dynasty, Charlie has spent his entire life immersed in horse racing.
Barry Hills trained more than 3,200 winners during his distinguished career – all over the world – before handing over the licence to Charlie in 2011.
And the success has continued to flow.
Just The Judge (Irish 1000 Guineas) and Phoenix Of Spain (Irish 2000 Guineas) have given him Classic glory, plus he has been responsible for two of the best sprinters of recent years in Muhaarar and Battaash.
Muhaarar carried all before him in 2015 when he landed the inaugural running of the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot before going on to land the Darley July Cup, Prix Maurice de Gheest and then QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes on Champions Day.
Battaash’s exploits include winning two renewals of the Coolmore Nunthorpe, a King’s Stand Stakes, a Prix de l’Abbaye plus four successive runnings of the King George at Goodwood.
He will be back for more in 2021.
Hills’ twin brothers Michael and Richard were leading Flat jockeys, while his late brother John was also a trainer. His youngest sibling, George, also works in the bloodstock industry.
Charlie spent time with Peter Hayes and Gai Waterhouse in Australia before returning to Britain to work for James Fanshawe. He assisted his father for eight years before picking up the baton from him.
